HEAD OF FLIGHT SOFTWARE

Ares Industries is a defense technology startup aiming to be the weapons prime of the 21st century. We are focused on delivering cutting-edge missile systems and building the critical weapons that the U.S. and its allies need to prevent global conflict. Our team is a group of aerospace nerds and engineers who believe in the power of engineering to shape geopolitics. At Ares, you will work in a high-intensity, engineering-driven environment where rapid iteration, real-world testing, and mission impact take priority over bureaucracy.

Ares is seeking a Head of Flight Software to lead the development of real-time software for missile guidance, navigation, and control (GNC). This role will focus on ensuring reliable software execution, optimizing embedded flight systems, and integrating software with avionics hardware. The ideal candidate has deep experience in real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded software, and aerospace applications.

Key Responsibilities:

-- Develop and maintain real-time flight software architecture for autonomous missile control.

-- Implement and optimize real-time execution of GNC algorithms for precision targeting.

-- Ensure software meets SWaP constraints and operates efficiently on flight computers.

-- Oversee hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to validate software before live flight tests.

-- Work closely with avionics, GNC, and propulsion teams to ensure seamless software-hardware integration.

Qualifications:

-- 10+ years of experience in real-time embedded software development, avionics, or flight control systems.

-- Expertise in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink for embedded applications.

-- Experience with real-time operating systems, embedded Linux, or flight computers.

-- Strong understanding of low-level hardware-software integration for aerospace applications.

Preferred Experience:

-- Experience developing flight software for missiles, UAVs, or aerospace applications.

-- Background in HIL testing, flight software validation, and real-time simulation frameworks.

-- Knowledge of DO-178 or other safety-critical software development standards.
