PROPULSION ENGINEER
Ares Industries is a defense technology startup aiming to be the weapons prime of the 21st century. We are focused on delivering cutting-edge missile systems and building the critical weapons that the U.S. and its allies need to prevent global conflict. Our team is a group of aerospace nerds and engineers who believe in the power of engineering to shape geopolitics. At Ares, you will work in a high-intensity, engineering-driven environment where rapid iteration, real-world testing, and mission impact take priority over bureaucracy.
Ares is seeking Propulsion Engineers to design, test, and optimize solid rocket motors (SRMs) for surface-launched missile systems. This role involves propellant development, burn rate analysis, and structural integration to ensure reliable performance under demanding conditions. The ideal candidate has experience in rocket propulsion, energetic materials, and high-temperature combustion physics.
Key Responsibilities:
-- Develop and test solid propellant formulations to optimize thrust, burn rate, and stability.
-- Design grain geometry to achieve mission-specific thrust profiles.
-- Conduct combustion analysis and ensure compliance with thermal and environmental requirements.
-- Work with casing and nozzle engineers to ensure motor integrity under high-G loads.
-- Oversee static fire tests and analyze performance data to refine designs.
-- Collaborate with the test team to instrument motors with pressure, temperature, and thrust sensors.
Qualifications:
-- 4+ years of experience in solid rocket propulsion, explosives, or energetic materials.
-- Strong knowledge of propellant chemistry, grain design, and combustion physics.
-- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for thermal and stress modeling.
-- Familiarity with static fire testing, safety protocols, and failure analysis.
Preferred Experience:
-- ITAR compliance, DoD programs, or composite SRM casings
-- Hands-on experience with SRM manufacturing, bonding techniques, and ignition systems.
-- Background in high-temperature insulation materials and structural casing reinforcement.
